Starting Salary $68,183 per year

Top Patrol $89,835 per year

Shift Schedule 12‑Hour 7AM–7PM · 7PM–7AM
~14 days/month

Uniforms & Equipment

All newly appointed recruits receive necessary uniforms and equipment, including department-issued firearm and body armor, paid for by the department.

Health Insurance

The City of Sterling offers an excellent health plan to all full-time employees, including medical, dental, and vision options.

Vacation

A new employee will accrue 80 hours of paid vacation after completing one year of employment.

Sick Leave

Sick time accumulates at 8 hours per month for all full-time employees with unlimited accumulation.

Pension

Individuals accepted into the pension system are eligible to retire pursuant to the benefits of 40 ILCS 5/3‑111. Both the participant and the City of Sterling contribute to the pension plan.
